Texans Can Academy - Houston Southwest's basketball team claims East Texas Regional Title for the Texas Charter School Academic & Athletic League

The boys’ varsity basketball team at Texans Can Academy – Houston Southwest earned the East Texas Regional Title this month for the Texas Charter School Academic & Athletic League.

The defensive and offensive work of Houston Southwest as well as the coaching of Curtis D’Costa brought the team to a 74 to 68 victory over YES Preparatory: Southeast.

“Three-point shooting played a critical role in the victory,” said Texans Can Academy - Houston Southwest Coach Curtis D’Costa. “The team shot 11-18 form three-point range.”

Top scorers included Point Guard Bryan Morris, Jr. who shot 31 points, and Center Denzel Hughes with 16 points. Both players went on to make the All-State Tournament Team.

This is Texans Can Academy - Houston Southwest’s first basketball team after the campus opened in 2016.  

Teams participating in the division included Aristoi Classical Academy, George I. Sanchez Charter School, Harmony School of Innovation: Sugar Land, Houston Can Academy - North, Houston Heights High School, YES Preparatory: Southwest.
